I’m Bobby Yan. I care about shaping things intentionally—my work, my body, what I build, and how I spend my life.

I think it’s easy to get things mostly right. But I enjoy those really meticulous designs and attention to details that differentiate good from great. Apple’s trackpad obliterates everything else out there. Tesla’s Bluetooth connects every, single, time.

A lot of the things I built recently started because I know what I want and I couldn’t put up with what’s already out there. I like things that are clear, reliable, and a pleasure to use. I don’t care much about novelty for its own sake. I care whether something feels well-thought-out, whether it keeps working, and whether all of its parts fit together. The best things rarely need much explanation.

Staying in great shape matters to me. I feel better when I’m strong, energetic, and taking good care of myself, so I try to be consistent about lifting and cardio. I don’t think effort is valuable simply because it is difficult. I care about the result.

I like learning about things I don’t understand, even when they have nothing to do with my work. Small questions tend to send me down long rabbit holes.
